Nigtwave (8Bitch) - Slovenian born Maya Medvesek started her electronic messing at the age of 14, running it alongside a traditional music education and jazz singing.
After arriving in London in 2002 she started to absorb the influences of the big grimey smoke, retaining her love for the machine music of Detroit but inescapably adding that London deep bass into her productions. A year spent living in Glasgow saw her complete the next stage in her journey, interfacing with the wonk sound that was just starting to explode there.
Critically acclaimed by FACT, Wire, Mixmag and XLR8R magazines, Maya’s built her reputation through a series of well chosen remixes prior to her debut 12” on Starkey’s Slit Jockey label and a follow up EP last October on Slit Records. Her burgeoning DJ career has seen her take on a harder, more direct sound and she’s decided on a new identity to better suit this move, changing from 8Bitch to Nightwave. The Feel EP, coming on Svetlana on vinyl in May will be the first expression of this new identity.
Sounds like: A mix of Detroit Techno, Electro, Hip Hop, Booty, Grime, Dubstep, Garage and god knows what else.
